Goat Pics!

I thought since I don't always have a recipe to share lately, I might as well post anyway! And what am I often busy with? GOATS! :)

Laua *Party*!

Vanilla Orange layer cake with a Hibiscus flower I drew on it (I used a stencil :) )

Saturday we had a hawaiian themed party. Several of my friends and family have birthdays in the month of May, plus it was Mother's Day weekend and so we rolled it all up into one big party! It was a really great party, we all had fun. Coconut race, singing, candle dance, banana pass, dancing, etc.

"Hairy", the coconut, was not someone to mess with! If you were caught with him when the music was randomly stopped, you'd get water, ice, banana, orange juice or whipped cream in your face! :)

As usual, there was tons of desserts. Here's just a few more pictures of the cake I made. I couldn't find any of the other desserts (my sisters made cookies, cakes, bars and fudge).

I hope you all had a good mother's day! I made some Black Gold Cookies for Grandma, she always appreciates them and I hadn't made them in awhile for some reason.

Well, sorry this wasn't a long post . . . I am pretty tuckered out. We had a late night last night also, we had 2 does kid. That was quite eventful. Let me just say we had 6 kids out and were in bed by 2am :).

Carrot Banana Orange Cream Shake

Ah! I at least try to post on here once a month, but there is no post on here for the month of April! But, the last time I posted it was the very day March 31, so maybe that will make up for it ;). The internet has been tweaky lately (on/off), and we even lost power a couple weeks ago because of a severe storm.

Storm April 18

Things have been going pretty well. The animals have been doing alright, but we've had some problems because the weather has been soooo up and down. So we've been busy with spring cleaning (the house and barn! well, actually, both are barns - we just live in one LOL), treating animals besides the regular care, and bottling the 20 bottle babies we have. Yep, 20. It actually doesn't seem like that many - maybe it's because either they're organized into groups or we're used to it - or both.

Bottle kids enjoying the green. Yep, they are still on the bottle . . . we spoil our kids!

It's May. It's the month of M-A-Y, ok? The weather is supposed to be nice like spring, right? It was 80 degrees a couple days ago, and the next day it was like 40! One day we're sweating and the next it's freezing rain! So ya, that's what I mean by the weather has been up and down. No wonder why some of the goats have gotten pneumonia. This can't be good for us humans either :). This is Oklahoma after all.

Dogwood flowers

Even if it doesn't look like spring outside, maybe this nice fruity shake will help get you in that spring mood.

And yes, I know I'm weird. I put weird things in my shakes. At least I don't put the whole quail egg in, shell and all, like some my family does . . . I just tend not to like sand in my shake.

Presenting you with yet another of my breakfast creations . . .

Carrot Banana Cream Shake
Hanunyah Creation

3-4 quail eggs
1 frozen banana -OR- 1 banana, peeled + 3 ice cubes
1 orange, peeled
1/4-1/2 of the orange peel
1 carrot, washed or peeled, whichever you prefer
1 1/2 cups raw goat milk (or cow or non-dairy milk)

Blend up and chug! :) You may add a cup of oatmeal to this shake (before blending) if you'd like to make it more filling, but I find I do better without grains.

A few more pictures . . .

The last couple days

Monday I awoke to hearing that my brother had got his first deer. I made 4 batches of granola bars (which came out to be 40 bars) for my brother that left to CA yesterday morning. I also made candied almonds (recipe coming soon, Lord willing). We did the animal chores and waited for a load of 37 goats and a couple sheep to arrive. We then went to the neighbor's for dinner.

We got up earlier than usual yesterday morning to say bye to my brother - with his ice-chest packed with fruit and nut granola bars, oranges and a couple jars of dressing. After doing the animals, it was nice to see that one of the does we just got had kidded to a big boy. A chilly afternoon of dancing out in the cold (winter has arrived!) with my wild family a run with two of my sisters. Last night my sister tried out a new recipe for oatmeal biscuits and I made a pan of brownies.

After all, the busier time of the year (and the new year!) is fast approaching. I'm planning on stocking up on some kitchen goodies, and hopefully I'll be back with a recipe or two.

31 for 21: Not Your Typical Kitchen

Soooo . . . today is the last of the 31 days. I'm sure blogging will slow down a bit, but hopefully I won't forget about this blog :). October is one of the busier months around here.

I thought I'd share this picture . . .
My bottle calf, Lulu, in the kitchen.

Its's just a baby! Hey, it is a barn. (Our house is a converted barn.) As I type, there is meat processing going behind me. We slaughter and butcher all of our own meat because of food allergies (plus, it is typically cheaper). (Funny, I just noticed that there is a DSAT (Down Syndrome Association of Tulsa) Buddy Walk shirt in that picture. Just fits the context of the blog challenge.)

Goodbye to the 2012 Annual 31 for 21 blog challenge!

31 for 21: A Blessed Life

As 31 for 21 winds down, and I live on a happenin' ranch, it is a beautiful fall day. My grandmother just flew back to CA today, and we have a barbecue tonight with my grandfather and step-grandmother. I was planning on making some sandwich bread sometime here, but with the wild life we have I'm not sure when I'll get to that let alone creating another recipe. But maybe, since life has been pretty crazy the entire time I've been creating recipes. But, I wouldn't want to change a thing. A big family, homeschooling, keeping a neighbor's farm, living on a ranch, a cute little brother with Down Syndrome? A beautiful thing. Don't wait 'till Thanksgiving to be thankful.

31 for 21: PICTURES!

I know it's baking season and all, but sometimes it's nice to take a break from the kitchen, ya know? It was beautiful outside today.

Here are some pictures from here at Liberty Ranch.

31 for 21: Mozzarella Cheese

FRESH mozzarella cheese made from our raw goat milk.
This recipe is courtesy of my sister . . . yes, Suriyah. Fresh homemade mozzarella cheese made from fresh goat milk.

Fresh Mozzarella Cheese
DairyGoatForums.com

2 gallons milk (we use raw goat milk)
3 teaspoons citric acid powder
1/2 teaspoon liquid rennet
1/8 teaspoon lipase (that's plenty, you can really taste it)
1/2 cup cool water, divided in half
1/4 cup warm water

1) Dissolve citric acid powder in 1/4 cup cool water, add to milk, stir well.
2) Dissolve lipase in 1/4cup warm water, add to milk, stir well.
3) Slowly warm milk, on low, to 90*F.
4) Dilute rennet in 1/4 cup of cool water, add to milk, stir well.
5) Turn heat off allow milk to set for 15min to achieve a clean break.
6) Cut into 1 inch curds, set in a 105*F water bath for 10min (it is okay for the curds to mat together some).
7) Drain curds into a colander kneading lightly to express whey (start heating whey now if you are making ricotta). Break curd apart and 2 teaspoons salt, knead lightly.
9) Place the curd into a microwave and cook on high for 1 minute, knead to express whey.
10) Cook on high heat again for 1 minute, cheese will be very hot and there wont be much whey this time, the cheese will begin to stretch.
11) Stretch and fold cheese a few times then fold into a ball, rinse in cold water, place in a small bowl to mold, and refrigerate
Cheese will last 2 weeks in the refrigerator or can be frozen.

new design + name

As of 1-3-12: I've re-named my blog name (which used to be "Hanunyah's Sweet Creations") to "Ranch Girl's Sweets 'N' Treats". "Sweet Creations" is a pretty common name, so I figured I'd change it to something a little different ;). My URL is still the same, though.

Also, a big thanks goes to my older sister (@ CountryGirlWebDesign.com) who has re-designed my blog and fixed-up all of the HTML. So, I hope you enjoy the new layout!
